In early 2009, James Hetfield challenged EMG Pickups president Rob Turner to craft a 'stealth'-looking pickup set. It combines the clarity and punch of passive pickups with the iconic active tone that influenced a generation. The JH Set, now available in EMG Metal Works Finishes and with EMG’s Solderless Installation System, includes the JH - N (neck) and JH - B (bridge). These pickups are modeled after those James used for 30 years but offer a unique sound. The JH - N has individual ceramic poles and bobbins with a larger core, taller than the 60. It delivers more attack, higher output, and a fuller low end in the neck position. The JH - B uses the same core type but has steel pole pieces, unlike the 81 with bar magnets. This results in a tight attack and a cleaner low end with less inductance. EMG's Metal Works offers six stainless - steel cap options for active or passive humbucker pickups. These USA - made caps come in Gold, Chrome, Brushed Gold, Brushed Chrome, and Brushed Black Chrome, giving players and instrument builders more premium choices. Using this EMG pickup set is easy. First, install it using the included solderless install system. Just connect the volume and tone pots, battery bus, output jack, and other components as per the provided cables. For normal use, adjust the volume and tone pots to get your desired sound. When it comes to maintenance, keep the pickups clean. You can use a soft, dry cloth to wipe them. Avoid exposing them to extreme temperatures or moisture. If you're not using the instrument for a long time, remove the battery to prevent leakage. And if you want to change the caps, it's a simple process. Just replace them with the new ones from the Metal Works collection. Always handle the pickups gently to ensure they last a long time.
