Using the Gold Tone CC - 50 banjo is a breeze. First, if you're new to playing, start by tuning the banjo. Use the guitar - style tuners and the geared fifth - string tuning peg to get the right pitch (tuning is GDGBD). Once tuned, you can start strumming or picking. For 'old time' or folk - style playing, you can use different techniques like fingerpicking. When not in use, keep it in the included gig bag to protect it from dust and minor bumps. As for maintenance, regularly check the strings. If they start to sound dull or lose their tension, replace them with new ones (the strings are .011 .013 .016 .024w .011). Wipe the body of the banjo with a soft cloth after each use to keep it clean. Also, make sure to keep the banjo in a dry place to prevent the wood from warping. If you choose to use a pickup (Options 1: SMP+ P or Option 2: Fishman Rare Earth Pickup), follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation and use. And if you want extra protection, you can purchase the optional HD14 hard case.
